Some time ago, it was very common to include referral links anywhere for anything, but that created saturation and caused Google to become stricter.

Google recently limited the reach of links that open in a new tab with **target="_blank"**.

It turns out that adding **rel="noopener noreferrer"** and leaving it **... target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" ...** is considered a cleaner practice, although I am still figuring out the exact implications of that rule and whether one should include **rel="noopener noreferrer"** in links that do not open in a new tab. I don't know what your thoughts are on this...
